Ambitious ideas on the road to e-mobility
As stated by Gerd Walkermember of the Board of Directors ofAudiWith its new production sites, the brand's primary ambition is to look to the future, while retaining its ecological touch (creating something new and more efficient with what already exists). "It's sustainability from an economic, ecological and social perspective. This approach by Audi conserves resources and accelerates our transformation into a sustainable premium mobility provider."he continues.
The aim is to make production flexible, resilient and perennial over the long term. To get there, Audi is developing a global strategy from different perspectives. The company states that within the future plant, the sustainability and attractiveness will be major challenges.
By 2029, the brand expects all Audi production sites to be producing at least one fully electric vehicle.Logically, therefore, the production of combustion-powered cars will have to be phased out by 2030.
By 2030, Audi intends to expand production of electric vehicles at all its production sites around the world. Staff will be trained to create a highly skilled workforce and a budget of around 500 million euros between now and 2025 will be allocated to it. Today, two sites are already mass-producing fully electric vehicles: Böllinger Höfe and Brussels. From next year, the Q6 e-tron will be the first fully electric model to roll off theIngolstadt. The production of electric cars has also gradually begun in Neckarsulm, San José Chiapa and Győr.
Audi does not intend to build factories unnecessarily, but only where additional capacity is needed. The company is currently building a production plant to manufacture models based on the new electric car platform PPE (Premium Platform Electric) à Changchun, China. By the end of 2024, The first car factory in China is to be built there, where only fully electric Audi models will roll off the assembly line.
A clear objective: transforming for greater productivity
The dealer intends to take advantage of this transition to e-mobility to make major leaps forward in terms of productivity and optimisation through the necessary conversions.
So that we can continue to manufacture economically in the future, Audi aims to halve annual factory costs by 2033. In addition, the top-of-the-range manufacturer wants to drive forward the digitalisation of production, for example, while reducing IT costs such as software deployments and operating system changes.
Another newly developed solution, cycle-free modular assembly, sera used by Audi in the future to facilitate the management of a wide variety of products. "Virtual assembly planning not only saves material resources, but is already enabling new flexible, cross-site collaboration."says Gerd Walker.
Flexible production with an eye on sustainability
In order to be able to react more flexibly to fluctuations in customer demand or in the production programme, Audi will make production processes even more flexible. For example, the new electric Q6 e-tron will initially be manufactured in Ingolstadt on a line with the A4 and A5. Electric models are gradually replacing combustion engines on the lines.
By 2025, All production sites should be CO2 neutral. For example, water consumption is to be halved by 2035. in relation to the current value.
Audi has set itself major sustainability targets: by 2030, the company aims to halve its absolute environmental impact in terms of primary energy consumption, power plant emissions, CO2 equivalents and atmospheric pollutants.
Audi, a seductive employer inside and out
Audi is also an attractive employer, both internally and externally. But above all in production. They are currently working on concepts to make working hours more flexible. The working environment and rest rooms are also being made more comfortable for employees. Audi production sees itself not just as a car manufacturer, but also as a developer of process technologies.
Finally.., Gerd Walker says "We want to be the best employer for our employees and the professionals we work with. We need to be surrounded by the best people for the transformation of our new plants, but also in rather unusual disciplines, such as electronics and software development."
