All you need to know about Smart Electric

Smart logo

The Smart project was born in 1990 from a simple idea: to create a simple, streamlined city car. At the time, it was driven by Nicolas Hayek, who was then Chairman of Swatch, the Swiss watch manufacturer. In 1991, Volkswagen took an interest in the project but pulled out because of the crisis. Mercedes-Benz decided to take over, having already worked on a similar concept in-house. The first prototypes saw the light of day in 1994. After a rocky start, the small car enjoyed commercial success in the cities, thanks in particular to its flagship model: the Smart Fortwo. Its big sister, the Smart Forfour, was launched in 2004. It was later redesigned in 2014 to make way for the Smart Forfour II, based on the Twingo III. Smart has thus become a benchmark in terms of mini city cars. Today, Smart is breaking new ground by offering only electric 100% models: the Smart EQ Fortwo and the Smart EQ Forfour.

What are the future electric Smart cars?

In order to renew its electrified range, the German manufacturer intends to bring out one vehicle a year until 2024.

The next vehicle will be a coupé SUV called the Smart #3. It is expected to have a 66 kWh battery with a range of 440 km. It will be built in China and will arrive on French roads in early 2024.

The Smart #2 is also planned and will replace the Smart EQ Fortwo. The car will remain a small, all-purpose city car, although it may be entitled to a rear row and will therefore be slightly larger than the current 2.70 metres.

For the moment, we have no further information on these two vehicles.

Bollard installer, very serious, there was a small problem with the choice of bollard, they managed everything from start to finish, they came back to install a new bollard and followed us through to the end.

It was a great experience. The bollard complied with the estimate, was efficient and easy to use. The installation went perfectly with a very competent and professional electrician. The customer experience from the moment we signed the quote right through to installation was perfect.
