What we know about the electric GranTurismo Folgore

For the time being, while the new electric coupé from Maserati has just been announced to the general public, we'll have to wait a little longer for its official launch. scheduled for 2023.

In the meantime, we've already had a chance to take a look at the various features and specific characteristics of the electric vehiclewhich the manufacturer itself has already shared.

The result is an electric coupé that is innovative in terms of its sports footprintThe new electric vehicle.

La Maserati The Folgore electric car is powered by 3 x 300kW permanent magnet motors, derived from Formula E. For this GranTurismo Folgorethe 800V technology has been chosen to ensure the best possible faster, optimal recharging to meet performance expectations.

Specific features of the new electric Maserati

Speed

In terms of speed, the Italian 100% electric coupé will be capable of doing 0-100 km in 2.7 secondsThis is a much higher score than the performance offered by internal combustion models, which require 3.5 seconds for the same exercise. What's more, when it comes to 0 to 200 km/h, you'll need just 8.8 seconds at GranTurismo Folgore to reach it.

In terms of maximum speed, the electric version of the GranTurismo impresses once again in this respect, with a top speed reaching 320 km/h in certain driving modes.

La battery

The GranTurismo Folgore is equipped with a T-Bone battery of 92.5 kWh capacity, of which 83kWh is useful.Maserati has opted for an H-shaped 'T-Bone' battery to adapt better to the curves of the vehicle, enabling it to maintain the low centre of gravity characteristic of the coupé model.

In terms of fuel consumption, the manufacturer has not yet provided any information, but it is likely that the sports coupé will be relatively demanding in terms of fuel consumption in order to deliver the promised performance.

Recharging

In terms of recharging, the GranTurismo allows recharging on ultra-fast terminalswith power ranging from up to 270 kW direct current.
It can also be recharged at up to 22 kW at AC charging points.

The style

The vehicle's structure is a combination of aluminium, magnesium and high-performance steel. The brand's aim has been to keep the vehicle's weight down, in order to meet the standards of the coupé model. Nevertheless, the GranTurismo Folgore still weighs in at 2.26 tonnes. The layout and choice of battery model have also been designed to respect the specific characteristics of the sports coupé, reducing the vehicle's height and optimising weight distribution and the vehicle's centre of gravity.

Certain aspects, both technical and stylistic, remain to be seen, however, as the vehicle's interior has not yet been fully revealed.

The price

The price of GranTurismo Folgore remains a mystery for the time being. Nevertheless, it should exceed €200,000 for this Maserati electric.

Maserati's electric ambitions

This first electric model will not be the last test for Maserati in this area. In fact, the manufacturer has major objectives in terms of electric vehicles and even aspires to electrify its entire catalogue by 2030. Other electric versions are already scheduled for release in the near future, such as the Grecale Folgore SUV and the GranCabrio.

The brand's ambitions in terms of electric vehicles are in line with the regulations announced by the government (LOM Act), and in particular the announcement that combustion vehicles will be phased out by 2035. For more information on the regulatory context, see our article on the Mobility Orientation Law.

What's more, the shift towards electric power initiated by Maserati symbolises the brand's desire to give a new dimension to its products. a new lease of life for its image by positioning itself as a brand more sustainable and environmentally conscious.

Rest assured, the GranTurismo Folgorealso known as "the world's first electric luxury sports car", promises a fine lineage behind it...
