When should you recharge your electric car?

When you own an electric vehicle, recharge the battery requires a minimum of thought and organisation. Anticipating when you need to recharge will enable you to save money over the long term.

Recharging at the right time to preserve your battery

Electric vehicles are not charged at any time. In order to protect the battery as much as possible of your electric vehicle, you need to ensure that you maintain a charge level within the following limits between 20 % and 80 %. Exceeding these levels once in a while will have no real impact, but repeated too often, over time, can lead to a premature ageing of the battery. Similarly, avoid constantly recharge your electric vehicle. It's better to let it go from 80 % to 20 % of charge than to recharge it to recover the 10 % consumed during the day.

Take advantage of off-peak times to recharge your car

Charging your electric car at home during the holidays off-peak hours considerably reduces the cost of recharging. The vast majority of electricity suppliers offer the peak/off-peak option, enabling you to benefit from advantageous rates during the hours when fewer people are expected to use the electricity network. This time slot is generally set at night between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m., but may vary slightly depending on your location. Depending on the situation, time slots may be offered during the day, giving you the opportunity to take advantage of the most favourable rates. consumer choice between several timetables such as :

  • from 2 a.m. to 7 a.m. and from 12.30 p.m. to 3.30 p.m. ;
  • from 11.30 p.m. to 7.30 a.m. ;
  • from 3 a.m. to 8 a.m. and from 1.30 p.m. to 4.30 p.m.

To find out which times are off-peak, you can consult your last bill or log on to your customer area on your electricity supplier's website.

Would you like to install a recharging point?

Electricity contracts better suited to plug-in vehicles

Reducing the cost of recharging an electric vehicle necessarily involves finding the best electricity tariff. On the French market, a number of suppliers are offering special deals for Linky meters, enabling you to benefit from reduced rates particularly at off-peak times, at weekends and during certain periods of the year. Visit profitability of these offers can be difficult to determine, as they require you to assess your consumption during specific time slots. So using a electricity comparator can be useful in assessing whether these offers are well suited to your needs.

Improved off-peak times

The Total Direct Energie supplier was one of the first to launch an offer Super off-peak hours allowing you to benefit from a less 50 % compared with EDF's regulated price per kWh, from 2am to 6am. For the rest of the day, the price of electricity is identical to the regulated tariffs. Engie also offers a deal that gives a 50 % discount on the price of kWh excluding VAT at night with its Elec'Car offer. This time, the discount applies to the offer's peak hours, which are higher than the regulated tariffs.

These offers will be of real interest to you if you can move as much of your consumption as possible at night (and in particular the search for your electric car).

Days when electricity is cheaper

Some suppliers also choose to offer a cheaper electricity some days of the week. On the other hand, electricity prices are higher on other days. So don't recharge your electric car at any time!

The Ohm Energie supplier has two offers tailored to the needs of Linky meters :

  • Ohm Evenings and Weekends, where you can benefit from minus 40 % on the price of kWh in off-peak hours and weekends;
  • Ohm Beaux Jours offers minus 30 % on the price of kWh between 1 April and 31 October.

Unlike its competitors, EDF is not committing itself to a percentage reduction in the price of kWh on its 3 Linky special offers, but is assuring that it will apply a lower rate with :

  • Mes Jours Zen offers a choice of two packages. The first gives you reduced rates on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. The second offers a reduced rate during off-peak hours and weekends.
  • Mes Jours Zen Plus lets you choose a package from the Mes Jours Zen offer and add a day of the week of your choice.
  • The Vert électrique Week-End package allows you to take advantage of one of the Mes Jours Zen packages with the following benefits guaranteed green electricity.

Finally, whatever offer you choose, be sure to check the power of your electricity subscription. Expressed in kVA (kilovolt-ampere), it represents the maximum load your meter can support.

Choosing a renewable electricity supplier

Why not choose a renewable energy supplier to provide you with electricity and recharge your car? It's a perfect match for an electric vehicle.

Why choose a renewable energy supplier?

There are many advantages to choosing a green electricity supplier. The main ones are :

  • Choosing to favour renewable energy gives you the opportunity to take concrete action for the environment.ecology. Indeed, if you already drive an electric vehicle, subscribing to green electricity seems like a no-brainer. In this way, you can continue to do your bit for preserving the environment.

The cost. Today's green electricity suppliers are offering attractive and competitive rates. Not only are you doing something for the planet, you're also doing something for your wallet!

What is a green energy supplier?

A green energy supplier is a supplier that undertakes to market electricity produced from renewable sources. It is therefore a production ecological, non-polluting. There are various ways of producinggreen electricity:

  • wind power generated by the force of the wind ;
  • solar energy produced using photovoltaic solar panels;
  • hydraulic energy from hydroelectric dams;
  • biomass obtained from degradable organic waste.

Green electricity is therefore generated using natural sources inexhaustible, unlike traditional electricity produced by fossil fuels. nuclear power plants or with fossil materials.

How is green electricity traced?

Taking out a green electricity contract does not guarantee that you will only consume electricity produced in an environmentally-friendly way. In fact, electricity cannot be sorted and green electricity injected exclusively to people who have signed a contract of this type (unless you install self-consumption solar panels).

However, by choosing a green supplier, you are ensuring that a amount of renewable energy equivalent to your consumption is produced and injected into the grid electricity. To prove this, suppliers buy Guarantees of Originan electronic document that makes it easier to trace electrons.

While some source exclusively from RE producers located in France, while others buy their certificates on the European market. The green and French offers are a little more expensive, but they can still be more attractive than the regulated tariffs. The contribution to the energy transition and to the local economy will also be much greater!
