your charging point
Why are charging points profitable?
As with electric carsOne thing that can put off a driver from buying a new car is the fact that it's not for sale. charging pointIt's a financial point of view.
To make it easier to buy and use charging points, there are several alternatives. Here are a few of them:
Installing charging points with government support
Once you've bought an electric vehicle, you also need to think about recharging it, in this case using charging points.
Charging stations can be found at various locations:
- in public spaces: you can easily recharge your vehicle in dedicated parking spaces (shops, etc.), restaurants, hotels, campsite or even roads).
- from charging points for your home
- at co-ownership
- atcommunity
However, installation requires significant investment. Fortunately, the government has introduced the ADVENIR programmeThis will help finance part of the installation of charging points.
When you plan to install a terminal, the amount of the bonus will depend on the beneficiary's situation.
To take advantage of this service, it is important to call on the services of a IRVE approved installer (Recharging Infrastructure of Electric Vehicles). In fact, a technician who installs a recharging point, whose charging capacity is greater than 3.7 kWmust have the qualification with the mention IRVE, in accordance with the standards of the decree no. 2017-26 of 12 January 2017. This qualification is awarded following specialist training in electric cars and charging points. So, if charging points are installed by a standard electrician (who does not have the IRVE qualification), this could pose an insurance problem in the event of accidents involving charging points.
To find out more, we recommend that you read this article, which explains the amounts you could receive and the conditions for eligibility. ADVENIR programmedepending on your situation.

A well-maintained recharging point requires little maintenance
As with all other electrical appliances, the charging point also requires regular maintenance to ensure that it works properly and lasts for a long time.
Fortunately, a charging point does not require any major maintenance. The only things you'll need to check during maintenance are :
- wear and tear on charging cables
- check that there are no problems with the plug contact
A low-maintenance recharging point saves you money and prevents breakdowns. If this happens to you, call in a qualified and recognised professional. He'll diagnose the problem and find a solution as quickly as possible.
Adding options to charging stations
To make the best use of a recharging point, options can be linked to the electrical device, such as the terminal with load shedding or the connected terminal.
With the development of new technologies, connectivity is being added to charging stations to make charging easier. It's true that this type of charging point represents a major investment, but in the long term it pays for itself.
Connectivity gives you a number of options, including :
- monitor the terminal's consumption (electricity consumption, speed, duration and charging power)
- monitor the status of the terminal remotely
- plan when you want to recharge the electric car
To use this option, you need a stable Internet connection.
Adding an option to a terminal does a number of things:
- better management of electrical equipment
- Save money and energy: thanks to the mobile applications linked to the connected charging points, for example, you can have total control over electricity consumption between the charging point and the electric vehicle. So not only will you see your electricity bill fall considerably, but you'll also be able to control energy consumption more effectively.
Profitability of charging stations for businesses
As we have just seen, many motorists are increasingly in favour of electric vehicles. To ensure that your customers are as well-equipped as possible, installation is more than necessary.
L'installation of a recharging point in a company offers many advantages from 3 different angles:
- Benefits :
- the charging stations are a way of attracting new customers and retaining existing ones
- The presence of recharging facilities shows that you care about your customers and your employees too. So you're improving user satisfaction
- Environmental benefits :
- Installing a charging point shows that you are committed to adapting electric mobility for the benefit of everyone and the planet. It strengthens your company's brand image.
- you reduce your impact on the environment
- Economic benefits :
- you can charge your customers for recharging, even those who only want to recharge their vehicle
- financial assistance is available for the purchase of electric vehicles and installation of terminals
- make savings on the total cost of the electric vehicle: fuel, maintenance, taxes, etc.
Charging stations vs. petrol pumps
In March 2022, the whole world experienced soaring fuel pricespassing the €2 mark, according to the latest figures. This increase can be explained by successive events, such as the health crisis and the war in Ukraine.
This is leading motorists to think about more economical solutions to reduce the cost of their journeys, in particular by switching to electric mobility.
Secondly, the cost of recharging depends on 3 key factors:
- the place The price of the charge will not be the same when the charge is made at home or in a public place.
- when to recharge the electric vehicle : sIf you have an HP/HC electricity contract, then the cost of recharging will be lower during off-peak hours at your home. Some public networks also offer preferential rates for charging at night.
- the type of load chosen slow or fast charge
Charging stations will be part of tomorrow's electricity network
Few people are aware of this, but charging points will indeed be part of the electricity network. So what exactly does this mean?
Some models of bollards have technology known as V2G (Vehicle-to-Grid). This technology aims to harvest and distribute the energy stored in the battery from an electric vehicle to the electricity grid. Depending on the driver's needs, demand and the capacity of the electricity grid, the electric vehicle's battery will charge or discharge.
Thanks to this technology, which is integrated into electrical charging points, it will not only power the vehicle, but also provide the energy needed for electrical appliances in the home.
This charging point function is just one of many. We have also listed 6 things you need to know about electric charging points.
Is it worthwhile renting charging stations?
As you no doubt know, you can buy a charging point outright. However, to make electric charging points as accessible as possible, it is now possible to hire them.
As a reminder, leasing allows you to spread your monthly payments over a number of months, so that you don't have to pay out any cash, which is particularly useful for SMEs. In terms of duration, terminal hire is available for 36, 48 or 60 months, with two options: with or without equipment buy-back:
- With buyback option : at the end of the lease, there is the option to buy back the installed equipment for a residual value of less than 10 %.
- No buy-back option: in this case, the obsolete terminal will be recovered and you will be offered new equipment for benefit from the latest technological advances from the terminals at the end of your contract.
This method of financing has a number of major advantages, particularly from a financial point of view. By renting a recharging point, the owner of the point is responsible for a large part of the investment, such as the cost of installation. So for the lessee, all they have to pay is the cost of recharging.
So if you're on a tighter budget and want to recharge your electric vehicle at a lower cost, the terminal rental seems to be a cost-effective solution in the short term.

Where do we stand with charging points in France?
This is one of the questions that electric vehicle owners ask themselves most of the time.
Many motorists, once reluctant, now own 100 % electric vehicles. And the year is off to a flying start with 14,626 electric vehicles registered and a market share of +13 %. This increase can be explained by changes in the environmental bonus from 1 January 2023for :
- Individuals
- If your reference tax income is less than or equal to €14,089, the bonus has been increased from6 000 € à 7 000 € for electric models with less than €47,000.
- With a reference tax income of €14,089 or more, the bonus rises to €5,000
While more and more electric vehicles are hitting the roads, charging infrastructure is still at a standstill. By 31 January 2023, France will have 85 284 charging stations open to the publicThis represents an increase of 57 %. A remarkable development, but still below what the government's ambition was to achieve 100,000 terminals to be installed by the end of 2021. This is still not enough for motorists who would like easier access to recharging at motorway service areas, for example.
Amélie de Montchalin, the French Minister for Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion, understands this problem for motorists: "We can't ask Europeans to switch to an electric vehicle if they don't have the certainty of being able to recharge, with a good distribution of charging points". After numerous negotiations, the EU transport ministers have agreed to install charging points every 60 km..
Why is there such a delay in installing charging points in France?
As we have just seen, solutions are being deployed to speed up the installation of charging points. At a time when many electric car drivers are complaining that they don't have enough charging points to recharge their vehicles, where does France stand on the installation of charging points?
By 2021, the government had set itself a target of "100,000 charging points" throughout France. For the moment, theAvere-France has 85,284 charging points open to the public by 31 January 2023.
The roll-out of charging points in France is slowing down for a number of reasons:
- the Covid-19 health crisis
- shortage of electronic components, particularly semiconductors, for the design of electrical terminals and electric cars
In conclusion
As we mentioned earlier, the purchase of a charging point represents a significant investment, which could discourage electric vehicle drivers from buying a charging point.
Despite this, there are many ways of making charging points more accessible to everyone, whatever their budget.
