Help with buying an electric car
Once virtually unattainable, the price of electric cars is starting to become increasingly affordable, but they are still above average. That's why the players in the energy transition have set up grants to help you buy one.
The ecological bonus
The ecological bonus is a subsidy that motorists receive for the purchase of a low-polluting vehicle. The aim of this state aid is to encourage the switch to clean vehicles.
Several vehicles are eligible for the environmental bonus, including :
- electric vehicles (maximum prize of €47,000),
- electric vans or hydrogen-powered vehicles,
- Plug-in hybrid vehicles (autonomy > 50 km for a maximum price of €50,000).
The amount of aid is capped at 27% of the purchase price and can be up to €5,000 for 100% electric vehicles.
You can find all the conditions to be met, as well as the full scale, on our article on this subject!
What's more, the environmental bonus can be combined with the conversion premiumThis means you can benefit from two types of financial assistance for the purchase of a single vehicle!
The conversion premium
The aim of this financial aid is similar to that of the ecological bonus: to encourage motorists to opt for a more responsible mobility solution. However, the conditions and amounts of this bonus are different from those of the ecological bonus. We have vehicles eligible for the ecological bonus and the conversion premium :
- electric cars,
- Plug-in hybrid cars,
- electric and plug-in hybrid vans.
However, other vehicle categories are also making their appearance:
- internal combustion vehicles (Crit'Air 1 only),
- motorised 2 or 3-wheelers or electric quadricycles.
This grant can be up to €6,000 if the conditions listed in our article on the conversion premium are met.
So, if you buy a new electric car, you can benefit from up to €11,000 in purchase aid, by combining the environmental bonus and the conversion premium. So you can reduce the cost of buying your vehicle, and enjoy a cheaper electric car.
Trade-in of your old vehicle
Vehicle trade-in allows you to sell your old vehicle in return for a sum of money (dry trade-in), or a reduction in the purchase price of your electric vehicle (trade-in with purchase).
The advantage of this option is that there are no eligibility criteria for your current vehicle to be taken back. So even the most polluting vehicles can benefit from the trade-in, to get them off the roads and improve the environmental impact of transport.
The 2023 zero-rate loan
Scheduled to come into effect on 1 January 2023 for a period of 2 years, this zero-rate loan is here to make it easier for you to buy a clean vehicle.
You can benefit from this aid if you live or work in a low-emission mobility zone (ZFE-m), or if you are close to one.
All vehicles (electric or rechargeable hybrid) emitting 50 g/km of CO2 or less and weighing less than 2.6 tonnes will be eligible for this loan. Limited to €45,000 for a car (€60,000 for a van), this 2023 interest-free loan requires certain conditions to be met in order to be applicable.
This loan can also be combined with national and regional support for the purchase of an electric vehicle !
Regional aid
Finally, depending on where you live, you may be eligible for additional grants towards the purchase of an electric vehicle. In some cases, these grants can be combined with the ecological bonus and the conversion premium.
For example, the Île-de-France region offers assistance of up to €3,000 to companies in the region.
So, for the purchase of a new electric vehicle, with the ecological bonus (€6,000), combined with the conversion premium (€2,500), and regional aid (€6,000), your company saves €13,500 on the purchase!
