In this sense, city charging networks facilitate access to 100% electric vehicles, which is why the Metropolis of Aix-Marseille has its own charging network, called "larecharge", which currently boasts 225 charging points. You can sign up right here. The metropolis recently announced the deployment of 275 charging stations on its territory, bringing the total number of charging stations to 500 across the entire metropolitan area. This will further develop the network and encourage the use of electric vehicles.

Nevertheless, despite a well-developed network of public charging stations, 80% of electric vehicle users prefer to have a charging station installed at home, or even at their place of work. The aim? Better access to charging, and therefore added convenience.

The EPZ arrives in September 2022

Since 2018, the Metropole of Aix-Marseille-Provence had been committed to setting up a ZFE-m. The ZFE will cover an area of 19.5 km², and will affect more than 314,000 inhabitants. Nevertheless, despite its size, the ZFE has the advantage of being very well served by parking lots and public transport.

The vehicles concerned are those with Crit'Air 5 stickers; by 2024, the other stickers will be required. Crit'Air 4, 3, 2 and 1 will be banned one after the other. This timetable is subject to change, however, in view of the shifts in dates caused by the health crisis.

Half-price parking

As mentioned above, priority is now given to clean vehicles, which is why the City of Marseille has introduced a 50% rebate on all subscription formulas for electric vehicles, so hybrid vehicles are not not vehicles are not covered by this benefit.

The benefits of installing a charging station

  • Ecological

Thanks to a charging station which is powered by photovoltaic panels, the environmental cost of your recharge will be zero. In fact, since the sun is considered an inexhaustible source of energy, your electric car won't consume a single gram of CO2, even during recharging.

  • Economical

The government is heavily involved in projects to promote the ecological transition and clean mobility, and provides financial support to both private individuals and professionals. In some cases, these grants can halve the cost of installing a charging station. However, as electric cars become more popular, these subsidies are decreasing from year to year. For example, the ecological bonus fell from €6,000 in December 2022 to €5,000 in January 2023. The decline in the bonus is accelerating.

  • Technical

Thanks to a special certification (IRVE, Infrastructure de recharge de véhicules électriques), professionals wishing to install a charging station must first be certified. This ensures that the work is carried out by a professional you can trust. As for prices, you should expect to pay between €300 and €1,000.

Why install your own charging station in Marseille?

Here, it's all about comfort and deliverability.

Your electric car will be most useful if it's recharged every day, so you can plan ahead for unforeseen journeys, even long ones. In this case, it's important and useful to secure a charging station at home. Even if the charging network in Marseille can be very useful and beneficial for troubleshooting, it will not be sufficient for daily recharging, or at least it will be less comfortable.

How much does recharging cost in Marseille?

The cost of recharging as well as your travel time to the charging station if you have a charging station at home or at work. So you won't have to keep going to public charging stations.

It's also a question of the availability and saturation of public recharging points. In fact, these points are accessible to everyone, which means that.... Anyone can plug in at any time, and thus potentially block your access to recharging.

For shops and businesses, equipping their parking lots with charging stations will enable them to attract more customers, as it provides them with an additional service. It also extends the time visitors spend on site, and makes daily life easier for their employees.

The different types of refill

What type of refill should I choose?

The type of recharge you choose will depend on your vehicle's battery. Indeed, if your vehicle has a large battery, with a longer range, it will require a longer recharging time or higher power.

For this reason, the charging power you choose will have a considerable impact:

  • Slow load - 3.7 kW
  • Normal load - 7kW
  • Accelerated load - 22kW

Fast-charging systems with a power rating of over 50 kW are very rare. You'll probably only find them on freeways.

Which installation for your home?

There are two ways to recharge your vehicle at home or at work:

  • Wall socket: For more powerful recharging than a conventional household socket. The Green Up can be mounted on your wall, for example in your garage. These charging points deliver 3 kW of power, with charging times ranging from 8 hours to 13 hours.
  • The charging point : It can be installed in your private parking lot and is also very efficient if you share the charging station with other people. It offers a slow charge of 7 kW, 11 kW or 22 kW, depending on your needs, for a recharge lasting between 5 and 7 hours.

How do I choose my charging station installer in Marseille?

Here are a few criteria to consider when choosing your installer:

A team of certified professionals (IRVE)

Not everyone can be an installer! It's imperative that the company you choose has IRVE certification, to ensure that the installation is of the highest quality and is carried out correctly and in compliance with standards. What's more, companies that aren't IRVE-certified won't be eligible for government and regional grants.

A team that respects installation laws

Just like any other electrical installation, installing a charging station is subject to strict rules and specific standards. If these rules are not respected, not only will the warranty be invalid, but you're bound to have problems with your charging station.

A company that respects you and answers your questions

Making an investment of this scale will inevitably raise questions on your part, questions that deserve answers. What's more, it's important that a dialogue of trust be established between you and the installer, so that you can install your bollard with complete peace of mind.

A detailed service plan

Still in line with our previous point, if your installer is trustworthy, he'll be transparent with you. Indeed, explaining the installation process from A to Z is important, and shows you how serious your installer is.
