Like many towns and cities in France, Caen is also committed to the ecological transition, in particular by encouraging the use of electric vehicles to get around. According to available data, Normandy, the region in which Caen is located, is actively participating in the development of recharging infrastructure for electric vehicles.
In February 2025, Caen will have 130 electric charging points, including 5 fast charging points (over 43 kW). To meet growing demand, the Syndicat Départemental d'Énergies du Calvados (SDEC ÉNERGIE) is actively working to expand this network, with the ambitious aim of achieving 1,000 additional charging points by 2027 across the whole of the Calvados département.
Although Caen has never had an electric car-sharing service similar to Bluecub, the city has developed its recharging infrastructure and offers electric mobility solutions. For example, Getaround, a car-sharing service, offers the opportunity to hire electric vehicles in Caen. In addition, the town has 125 charging points compatible with the Chargemap Pass, making it easier for users to access recharging facilities.
This initiative is part of a regional drive to support the rapid growth in sales of electric cars and significantly improve access to recharging solutions for all users in the Caen region. SDEC ÉNERGIE plans to invest between €7 and €8 million over 5 years to achieve these objectives.
Caen currently has :
Despite the availability of charging points, there are still not enough for all EV (electric vehicle) drivers to be able to recharge their vehicles.
The installation of charging points in France continues to be a priority for the government. To keep pace with the growth in sales of electric cars, an ambitious national target of 400,000 publicly accessible charging points by 2030 has been set.
With this in mind, the Syndicat Départemental d'Énergies du Calvados (SDEC ÉNERGIE) is actively working to expand the charging network, with the aim of achieving 1,000 additional charging points by 2027 across the whole of the Calvados département.

At the moment, electric vehicles are still in full expansion, but many users are finding it difficult to find charging stations: either because there are no more spaces available, or because the charging system is not adapted to their vehicle.
The solution to this problem is to install a charging point directly in your home.

This means you won't be dependent on charging stations in public car parks.

In addition to having a charging point at home, if you install photovoltaic panelsYou'll be able to recharge your vehicle and use 100 % of the sustainable energy from these panels. So these actions represent an impact towards more sustainable mobility.
