About Skoda

Skoda logo

Skoda Auto was founded in 1895 in the town of Pilsen in the Czech Republic. Initially specialising in the production of lorries, then military equipment during the First World War, the manufacturer launched its automotive division and its first production car: the torpedo. The carmaker was bought by Volkswagen AG in 1991. The takeover breathed new life into Skoda, which had been struggling in the 1980s, and enabled it to break sales records year after year. After its Citigo iV 100% electric city car, launched in November 2019, Skoda is ushering in its new era of 100% electric mobility with its Skoda ENYAQ iV SUV, due to go on sale in 2021.
