An electric Rolls Royce at last! The British luxury brand, owned by BMW, has announced its first electric car, the Rolls Royce Spectre.
In a video recently released on the brand's website, Rolls Royce officially unveiled its very first electric vehicle.
Scheduled to go on sale in the 4th quarter of 2023, it comes as a surprise that the British brand is unveiling an electric vehicle without having used a transitional model such as a hybrid.
In fact, the manufacturer has skipped a stage in its transition and is taking full responsibility for its choices. However, the brand does not want to rush into anything. With 2.5 million kilometres on the clock, or 400 years of use, the Rolls Royce Spectre will be presented more officially and, more importantly, will go on sale.
This electric coupé is set to replace the Wraith model, which dates back to 2011.
It re-uses the platform of the 2017 Phantom 8.
Rolls Royce specifies that its vehicle will be able to accommodate different powertrains.
At Goodwood, we can assure you that investment in development has been and will continue to be substantial in order to meet consumer demand and offer a model worthy of the brand's reputation.
What you need to know about the Rolls Royce Spectre
According to certain technical details revealed, the modular chassis used on the Phantom and Ghost models will be reused on the Spectre. The challenge for the manufacturer will therefore be to adapt the chassis, which is faithful to the combustion engine, to an electric motor. It's a path that runs counter to that chosen by its competitors, who generally decide to create chassis from scratch specifically for electric motors.
While we await the official design, in this announcement the Rolls Royce Spectre is presented to us decorated with a quotation from co-founder Charles Rolls:
"Strive for perfection in everything you do. Take the best there is and make it better. What does not exist, make it". Strive for perfection in everything you do. Take the best there is and make it better. What doesn't exist, design it".
