The different types of quadricycle
It's sometimes forgotten, but small cars are a particular feature of the European market, and they are governed by its laws. There are two categories, depending on the weight of the vehicle in particular.
Light quadricycles
- Their unladen weight must not exceed 425 kg.
- Their power must be less than or equal to 6 kW.
- The engine capacity of internal combustion engines is limited to 50 CCfor petrol and diesel engines 500 CCfor diesel engines.
- They must not measure more than 3 m long, 1,50 m wide and 2,50 m high.
- They can only have two seats.
You can drive this type of car from 14 years of agehaving obtained a AM licenceor the road safety certificate (BSR light quadricycle option).
Heavy quadricycles
- Their unladen weight must not exceed450 kg(except goods vehicles which are limited to600 kg)
- Their power must be less than or equal to15 kW
- They must not measure more than3,70 mlong,1,50 mwide and2,50 min height
- Their speed is limited to90 km/h
From 1 October 2022, the technical control for electric cars without a driving licence is now compulsory. It will have to be carried out within 4 years of the vehicle being put into circulation, and then once every two years.
