Since 2021, the government has made it easier to obtain the tax credit for the installation of charging points for private customersto second homes. The government wants to democratise electric cars to reduce CO2 emissions from road transport. According to Vincent Thiébaut MP, "limiting the tax credit to main residences would be counterproductive".
According to the same MP, the fact that second homes are not eligible for the tax credit is delaying the switch to electric cars for some motorists. They "couldn't get to their second home with this type of vehicle". However, Barbara Pompili, the French Minister for Ecology, has specified that "for reasons of fairness" and "moderation of tax expenditure" you will only be able to claim the tax credit for one second home per taxpayer.
