Like all major French cities, the Aix Marseille Provence metropolitan authority has announced the scope of its Low Emission Zone (ZFE), which covers 19km² in the heart of Marseille and is bounded by the Prado, Rabatau, Jarret and Plombières areas, as well as the Euromed zone. The city is therefore keen to develop the use of electric cars. The city of Marseille is committed to promoting low-pollution urban mobility, and would also like to ban diesel vehicles by 2026 and longer term for petrol vehicles. The electric car, which emits no CO2 and no CO pollution sound, is often valued by metropolises.

Grants for buying an electric car in Marseille as a private individual

You can benefit from a wide range of grants if you buy an electric car in Marseille as a private individual.

Ecological bonus

The ecological bonus is changing! With changes scheduled for 1 January 2023, the ecological bonus will fall from €6,000 to €5,000. This bonus is deducted directly from the price of the vehicle by the leasing company or dealer.

Conversion premium

You can also take advantage of the conversion allowance of up to €5,000, depending on your household income. The conversion allowance is government aid for all French people to buy a new, less-polluting diesel, petrol, electric or rechargeable hybrid vehicle, whether second-hand or new.

Is there any regional aid for buying an electric car in Marseille?

Martine Vassal, president of the Aix-Marseille-Provence Metropolis, announced the new : " It's a subject we've given a lot of thought to. We're going to introduce a €5,000 subsidy for the purchase of an electric vehicle for all our employees.he person who lives in the EPZ, or the professionals domiciled in the zone".

The Aix-Marseille Provence Metropolitan Area is offering a grant of €5,000 to be applied in 2024 towards the purchase of an electric car for residents and professionals in the Low Emission Mobility Zone (ZFE).

This aid can be combined with the ecological bonus and the conversion premium.

Grants for buying an electric car in Marseille as a business customer

Ecological bonus

The ecological bonus is changing! With changes scheduled for 1 January 2023, the ecological bonus will fall from €4,000 to €3,000. This bonus is deducted directly from the price of the vehicle by the leasing company or dealer.

Conversion premium

The aim of the département's support for the purchase of an electric vehicle is to speed up the replacement of the Paris region's car fleet with clean vehicles. It complements the conversion bonus introduced by the government.

Buying an electric car in Marseille

To buy a new electric car, you need to make sure that you meet the conditions for obtaining a loan, long-term hire (LLD) or lease with option to buy (LOA).

  • You are over 18
  • You are not registered with the Banque de France    
  • Your debt ratio does not exceed the regulatory 33%
  • You have completed your trial period

For entrepreneurs and the self-employed

  • Bank details
  • Copy of National Identity Card
  • Last tax assessment
  • 2035 or 2042 return (self-employed professionals)
  • Simplified balance sheet (own-account companies)
  • Trade register

For companies/legal entities

  • Copy of the manager's national identity card 

Documents required for private individuals

The documents you need to apply for credit or a loan LOA/LLD for your electric car :

  • A copy of your last three payslips. If you are retired or self-employed, you will be asked for your last one or two tax notices.
  • A copy of your identity document, either a National Identity Card or a valid passport.
  • Proof of address less than 3 months old. This could be a gas, electricity or telephone bill (even a mobile phone bill), a rent receipt or a property deed.
    A bank details form (RIB).
  • A signed and completed cheque for the first instalment of your rental schedule. Payment of the first instalment will only be made on receipt of the vehicle.

How do you calculate your debt ratio?

The debt ratio must not exceed 33% of net household income. In other words, a banker or banking institution will only accept your application if you can prove that your fixed costs do not exceed 33% of your net income.

As part of the energy transition, the Mairie de Marseille is offering preferential rates for owners of electric cars, i.e. €65/year instead of €130/year for a combustion vehicle.

How do I recharge my electric car in Marseille?

There are various options for recharging your electric car in Marseille, depending on your situation.

Recharging at public charging points in Marseille

The city also plans to deploy more than 275 public fast-charging stations by 2021. These charging points will be deployed as a priority in town centres, tourist areas and shops. The sockets accepted are T2, CHAdeMO and COMBO.

  • Domestic sockets can be used for normal recharging
  • The type 2 (T2) socket is the European standard for normal (up to 7 kW), accelerated (up to 22 kW) and rapid (up to 43 kW) recharging, depending on the model of electric vehicle.
  • Combo and Chademo sockets for rapid recharging, up to 50 kW

The easiest way to access these charging points is via the Larecharge service. The network guarantees that all residents of the Metropolitan Region can recharge their batteries quickly and at a reduced rate. It is compatible with the national network for long journeys. You will need to create a client account.

Good to know:

  • these rates apply from 1 March 2023
  • these rates are based on the maximum power of the terminal and not on the maximum power of your electric vehicle 
  • billing is based on the time spent connected to the charging point. Remember to unplug your vehicle when it is fully charged. 
  • per session, the cost of invoicing is limited to €50  
  • these charges also apply to the Simone network, another recharging network in the Bouches du Rhône department

Charging your electric vehicle at home

The best solution, of course, is to recharge at home. There are two main options: 

Whether you rent or own your own home, you have what is known as a "home loan".right to take". What does this mean? It means that you cannot be refused theinstallation of a recharging point in your building's car park. 

If you live in a private residence, you will benefit from assistance from the Advenir programme. The Advenir programme finances the supply and installation of charging points for electric vehicles.
