For the moment, they are free of charge in order to boost the development of electric mobility. On average, "each of our rapid charging points is used five times a day, with a charging time of 105 minutes", says Bordeaux Métropole. Bordeaux is also equipped with 213 spaces with slow-charging stations. They can be found in a number of public car parks (Metpark, UrbisPark, etc.) and park-and-ride sites in the conurbation. There is also a network of charging points in car parks for shops, hotels and businesses that are open to the public.

Ecological bonus

The ecological bonus is changing! From 1 January 2023, the ecological bonus has been reduced from €6,000 to €5,000. This bonus is deducted directly from the price of the vehicle by the leasing company or dealer.

Conversion premium

You can also take advantage of the conversion allowance of up to €5,000, depending on your household income. The conversion allowance is government aid for all French people to buy a new, less-polluting diesel, petrol, electric or rechargeable hybrid vehicle, whether second-hand or new.

To buy a new electric car, you need to make sure that you meet the conditions for obtaining a loan, long-term hire (LLD) or lease with option to buy (LOA).

  • You are over 18
  • You are not registered with the Banque de France    
  • Your debt ratio does not exceed the regulatory 33%
  • You have completed your trial period

Documents required for private individuals

The documents you need to apply for a credit or a LOA/LLD for your electric car:

  • A copy of your last three payslips. If you are retired or self-employed, you will be asked for your last one or two tax notices.
  • A copy of your identity document, either a National Identity Card or a valid passport.
  • Proof of address less than 3 months old. This could be a gas, electricity or telephone bill (even a mobile phone bill), a rent receipt or a property deed.
    A bank details form (RIB).
  • A signed and completed cheque for the first instalment of your rental schedule. Payment of the first instalment will only be made on receipt of the vehicle.

How do you calculate your debt ratio?

The debt ratio must not exceed 33% of net household income. In other words, a banker or banking institution will only accept your application if you can prove that your fixed costs do not exceed 33% of your net income.

Parking your electric car in Bordeaux

Parking is free for 1h30 in Bordeaux for electric vehicles, using the green disc available for clean vehicles and therefore necessarily for electric vehicles. This green disc has been available since 2008, thanks to the Association des Voitures Écologiques (AVE). To obtain it, you will need to show proof of address to the municipal services, for a fee of €3 per year. 

The Bordeaux metropolitan area and MetPark offer a reduction of 50% on season tickets and 30% on hourly rates for certain underground car parks. They apply to individual season ticket holders and hourly users.

The electric car owners can charge up free of charge in its parking areas and in the free PARCUB car parks in Bordeaux.

There are various options for recharging your electric car in Bordeaux, depending on your situation. The city of Bordeaux offers a number of charging solutions, with varying degrees of speed, for easy recharging.

Public charging points in Bordeaux

The Bordeaux metropolitan area is also looking to promote electric cars through its offer of free fast-charging stations.

As part of its commitment to greener urban mobility, Bordeaux is now offering a number of electric charging points in public spaces, in addition to those already available in public car parks.

These stations are largely compatible with different models of electric car. The city of Bordeaux has provided 3 different plugs (Type 2, CSS, CHAdeMO) for all types of vehicles or two-wheelers.

Good to know
