Reinforced socket in Norway: the future of terminals?

prise renforcée Norvège

The NAF (Norway Automobile Federation), supported by the NEK (Norwegian Electrotechnical Committee), has decided to ban the use of reinforced plugs for recharging electric cars at home. This decision is motivated by safety concerns.

At present, the only way to recharge your electric vehicle in Norway is to install a charging point. This is yet another step towards the democratisation of charging stations in Norway. was massively replacing its petrol stations with stations with recharging points. However, this is a blow to the country's smallest pockets, given that a recharging point is more expensive to install than a reinforced socket. So why did they take this decision, knowing that it would be a hardship for Norwegians with the least resources? That's what we're going to find out.

Charging points more in the spotlight than ever

As one of NAF's charging point experts, Jan Tore Gjøby, puts it, a properly installed charging point is much more suitable for charging electric vehicles. Given that its primary mission is to recharge electric vehicles, it brings together the technologies and standards required for this purpose.

A bollard placed outdoors must meet IK08 and IP55 standards to provide a minimum of resistance to shocks and bad weather. But that's not all: in Norway, many people have witnessed recharging being carried out under excessive heat emitted by the reinforced socket, which has also heated up the electrical system.

It didn't cause a fire, but it did motivate NAF and NEK representatives to take the necessary measures before it happened. With a charging point that complies with standards and has no manufacturing faults, this type of situation cannot arise, as the point switches itself off automatically when it is subjected to conditions that are too harsh and dangerous. Charging points are also more resistant to high power. Charging points with load shedding regulate themselves so as not to exceed the available power transmitted by the meter. So you don't blow a fuse.

These strong security requirements are reinforced by the fact that most electric vehicles are recharged at night, when everyone is asleep. I don't need to spell it out for you: if a fire breaks out at this time, the damage can be extensive.

Would you like to install a recharging point?

What are the advantages of home charging points over reinforced sockets?

In addition to the safety needs we've already discussed, charging points are also more advantageous from a practical point of view! They provide a whole host of extra features compared with reinforced sockets.

Considerable power gains

Charging stations transmit higher charging power than the reinforced sockets available on the market. A reinforced socket can transmit a maximum of 3.7 kW, depending on the model, which means you can recharge your electric car in just under a day. While all charging points produce at least 7.4 kW, depending on the power available, so you're guaranteed a full charge in just one night's sleep.

The advantages of connected charging points

A possibly connected charging pointThis is in contrast to any type of reinforced socket. Bollard connectivity can give you a host of significant benefits and functionalities.

For example, you can programme your recharging periods to take advantage of off-peak times to cut costs.

But that's not all! You can also :

  • monitor the consumption of your charging point (speed, duration and charging power) for information purposes
  • monitor the status of your terminal remotely
  • activate or deactivate the remote charging point

Install a recharging point to benefit from financial advantages

When you install a charging point, you're entitled to a whole host of government grants! This is in line with the government's drive to develop and encourage the switch to electric vehicles in the whole of Europe. vehicle fleet French.

Advenir help

Le ADVENIR programmeis a programme that rewards projects to install recharging stations. It is aimed particularly at professionals, but can also subsidise private individuals in certain cases. The scheme is aimed primarily at businesses wishing to install charging points in their car parks, whether for private or public use. It may also be available to private individuals, but only in the case of condominiums.

ADVENIR supports initiatives to decarbonise mobility by using the CEE mechanism (energy saving certificates) and ongoing public subsidies to support electromobility. In other words, ADVENIR uses incentives to finance the roll-out of recharging infrastructures. It is one of the main schemes for financing electric vehicle charging infrastructure in France.

Le Ministry of Ecological Transition had set itself the ambitious target of achieving 100,000 terminals charging stations installed by October 2020 and support for the installation of charging points was increased accordingly. The operation was supposed to be valid for all charging points open to the public installed between 2 November 2020 and 31 October 2021. Now, with the extension of this aid, ADVENIR aims to install almost 65,000 new recharging points. An additional budget of €20 million has been earmarked for the project.

Tax credit for energy transition

Le Tax credits for the energy transition is a tax credit that allows you to part-finance the installation of your recharging point.

It was set up with the help of MaPrimeRenov'to replace the CITE (Tax Credit for Ecological Transition).

The credit will be granted for just one charging system per home if you live alone. In this case, you will be entitled to a maximum of €300 in tax credit, with one system installed in your main residence and another in your second home.

If you live as a couple with a joint tax return, you may be allocated two systems of charges. This means that these 2 systems can be applied to their main home and 2 others to their second home. If you are a married couple, the amount of the tax credit can be up to €1,200, if you install two charging systems per home.

It's important to note that the authorities may take back the tax credit you were awarded if you were reimbursed for the installation of the charging point within five years of installation. However, no repayment will be made if the repayment is the result of a claim.

We explain the conditions for accessing this aid in our article Support for the installation of charging points, don't hesitate to consult it.
