Model 3 offers the best price-performance ratio

Initially introduced in 2017, the Grande Autonomie RWD version was the first Model 3 available from Elon Musk's firm. Sold at the time for €54,600, it was very attractive compared to the other versions, as it offered superior range. Thanks to its 75 kWh battery, it could travel up to 560 km on a single charge (according to the WLTP cycle). What's more, the Tesla Model 3 Grande Autonomie RWD was also more affordable than the Dual Motor version, which offered similar performance but at a higher price.

In terms of technical specifications, it was equipped with a 211 kW (286 hp) electric motor that enabled it to reach a top speed of 225 km/h and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds. Tesla stopped selling this version shortly after it went on sale in Europe in 2019. It was replaced by the Model 3 with all-wheel drive (Dual Motor). The electric vehicle offered similar performance to the RWD version in terms of range, but with better grip and faster acceleration thanks to the presence of a second electric motor at the front of the car.

It made better use of electric power, enabling more stable and comfortable driving on slippery roads or in difficult driving conditions. It should be noted that the Tesla Model 3 Long Range RWD was a very specific version that did not necessarily meet the needs of all the brand's customers. The all-wheel-drive Tesla Model 3 offered a more versatile alternative that met the needs of most drivers.

In the end, Tesla chose to focus on improving the all-wheel-drive version, which better met the needs of its customers while offering similar range performance to the RWD version.

At present, three versions of the Tesla Model 3 are available on the automaker's website. A single-engine car named Propulsion and two others with dual engines, the Long Range and the Performance

Tesla Model 3 version comparison: range and price

The Long Range version of the Tesla Model 3 making its return to Europe features a high-capacity battery combined with a unique rear engine to deliver an impressive 634 km range (WLTP). It will feature an 82 kWh battery normally reserved for two-motor variants of the Model 3. This makes it ideally suited to frequent long-distance business trips.

By way of comparison, the current dual-engine, all-wheel drive variant is sold in France with a range of 602 km (WLTP) for €49,990. The Performance variant is offered with a range of 547 km (WLTP) for €53,990.

This would mean that the new older version would fit in between the entry-level Model 3 Propulsion (standard, with LFP batteries) and the Performance version, both in terms of range and price:

  • Tesla Model 3 Propulsion - 491 km (WLTP) from €41,990
  • Tesla Model 3 Grande Autonomie Dual Motor - 602 km (WLTP) from €49,990
  • Tesla Model 3 Performance - 547 km (WLTP) from €53,990

Tesla, a partner of choice for companies seeking to go green

Following a drop in the price of electric vehicles in Europe, this new version is priced at 3,000 euros less than the all-wheel-drive Model 3 Grande Autonomie. This makes it more affordable for companies looking to electrify their fleet. This innovative electric car offers better value for money in terms of range, even if it doesn't offer the typical performance, with slightly lower acceleration.

With the reintroduction of the Tesla Model 3 Long Range RWD in Europe, Tesla is reinforcing its position as leader in the electric car market. The brand is increasingly establishing itself as a partner of choice for companies wishing to begin their ecological transition by opting for a high-performance, reliable and environmentally-friendly electric vehicle fleet.

The brand also boasts an extensive charging infrastructure with its network of Superchargers. Companies that adopt a Tesla electric car fleet thus benefit from a turnkey solution for their ecological transition. Businesses can now opt for a high-performance, reliable and environmentally-friendly electric car, while benefiting from value for money in terms of range.

For the time being, Tesla has not communicated whether a similar variant will be available for private customers. This may change over time. For business customers, the Tesla Model 3 Large Autonomy can already be ordered. The first deliveries are due to start in June this year.
