The Nissan Leaf is the best-selling electric car in the world. Long shunned by the French in favour of the highly successful Renault Zoé, the Nissan Leaf e+ 2019 is making up for lost time by offering what previous generations lacked: greater range and unrivalled driving pleasure.

Nissan Leaf e+ video test drive

"The king is dead, long live the king".

La Nissan Leaf originally released in 2010 has been sold to 400,000 copies worldwide. A record. Consumers have been eagerly awaiting the e+ version, which will finally offer a new, more powerful, and more compact version. battery from 62 KWh. This version brings what was missing from the 2015 version: a range of almost 400 km. Nissan is thus discouraging the last incorruptibles who wish to remain on a thermal vehicle.

The Nissan Leaf e+, the best of the Leaf

Apart from a chrome 'Plus' label under the finish badge on the tailgate and a blue lower front bumper trim, the changes are not visible from the outside of the car . Inside, there's an 8.0-inch central touchscreen rather than the standard car's 7.0-inch unit.

The major change, of course, is a redesigned battery in a different casing. It uses slightly higher density cells to deliver 62 kWh compared with 40 kWh for the standard Leaf.
The Leaf e+ is rated at 160 kW (210 bhp), compared with 110 kW (147 bhp) for the standard 40 kWh model.

On the road, the Nissan Leaf e+ is pretty much what we expected: a more powerful Leaf with a larger autonomy.
The ride is comfortable, the steering is adequate and, for the first time, it offers enough acceleration to overtake at any speed, including the maximum speed on the motorway.

The Leaf is just as good at stopping and offers one-pedal driving characteristics. This generation offers e-Pedal, which recharges the battery more efficiently: all you have to do is gradually lift your foot off the pedal to activate regeneration. It's easy to get used to this one-pedal driving mode, and it's quite fun. But if you prefer a more traditional braking experience, the Leaf combines the regenerative braking and mechanical braking - there's no difficult transition between the two.

With the weight of the heavy battery under the passenger compartment to keep the centre of gravity very low, the Leaf handles winding roads quite well, with controlled cornering characteristics.

Beev offers multi-brand 100% electric vehicles at the best prices, as well as recharging solutions.

Selecting an electric vehicle

Charging the Nissan Leaf e+

A big advantage of the Nissan Leaf e+ is that its standard charging cable can support home plug charging without you having to spend a single euro to install a separate charger. wallbox at home. Instead, all you need is a 220-volt plug, and once you're recharged, you're ready to hit the road.

For those needing fast charging, a switch to a 100 kW charger can take the Leaf e+ from 0 to 80 % in 45 minutes, although this type of fast charge is still hard to find. Using a more common 50 kW charger, you can reach 80 % of battery power in just one hour.

From what we could see, the e+ seemed well on the way to reaching its maximum of 385 kilometres if we let the battery discharge all the way.

The Nissan Leaf e+ starts at €43,700 and in 2019 the range has been greatly expanded since its introduction to the market, notably by its Korean cousins. Kia Niro EV and Hyundai Kona and slightly longer range than the Leaf e+. Nevertheless, the Leaf is a compactFor urban and suburban use, the Leaf is like a fish in water, and rivals it perfectly. So, are you more of an urban or rural commuter?
