What is medium-term leasing?
The LMD is a rental contract lasting between 1 and 24 months, renewable. After 24 months, you will need to take out a LLD ranging from 24 months to 60 months. For less than one month, you will need to use a short-term rental contract (LCD).
The LMD is therefore a good solution for those who want flexibility. However, this flexibility comes at a cost. In fact, the LMD is more expensive than a LLD, which is normal given that you are hiring the vehicle for a much shorter period. The lessor also charges you for the time it takes to find a lessee for the vehicle after your rental period. This is why the LMD should only be a temporary solution and not a long-term one.
In what situation is the LMD recommended?
As described above, the MHL is a medium-term back-up solution. Medium-term leasing of your electric vehicle will benefit you in certain specific cases.
For example:
- You've just finished your previous long-term leasing contract and you're waiting for your next vehicle to be delivered. The LMD contract can be used as a transition between the two vehicles.
- Another possible situation is if you are travelling by plane or train over a long period of time and need to be transported to your destination. LMD is there to save the day.
- If you want to test drive a car before taking out a full finance lease or buying it outright, the LMD is for you!
Medium-term leasing is also suitable for more professional use. If you're going on a long business trip, or on a temporary contract in a city far from home, the LMD may be a good solution. Your employer can pay for it.
The advantages of medium-term leasing for electric vehicles
The LMD has a number of advantages that will convince you to take the plunge. As we said in the previous section, this method of financing will be of great use to you during the transitional periods of changing your vehicle and long-term stays. The main advantage of this method of financing, which is relatively short compared with a LLDis its flexibility. Because you don't keep your vehicle for long, you have more freedom than with a long-term lease.
Another significant advantage is that a wide range of insurance policies are included in your contract. These include
- Vehicle anti-theft warranty
- All-risk insurance
- 24/7 medical and technical assistance
- Maintenance
So there's nothing to worry about.
