2022 ecological bonus: reduction in aid postponed
The information was confirmed to CNPA (Conseil National des Professions de l'Automobile), at a meeting of the office of the Strategic Committee for the Automobile Sector held last Tuesday with the PFA (the Automobile Platform) in the presence of the main representatives of the sector.
The reduction in eco-bonus aid that was supposed to apply from 1 January 2022 has finally been postponed by 12 months, to the end of 2022. While everyone was in favour of the postponement, the reduction in the price of vehicles eligible for assistance was more controversial.
The decision-makers considered the idea of lowering the maximum purchase price of vehicles eligible for the eco-bonus, which is capped at €47,000. In the end, they decided to keep the ceiling at €47,000 so as not to significantly reduce the number of vehicles eligible for the bonus.
A quick reminder of the terms and conditions of the ecological bonus:

2022 Ecological Bonus: will plug-in hybrids still be eligible?
During a question-and-answer session in the French Senate, the Ministry of Ecology was questioned on the issue of plug-in hybrids, which emit far more CO2 and therefore pollute far more than initially predicted. Indeed, some studies carried out in Great Britain and in GermanyThe European Commission, in a recent report, pointed to the fact that plug-in hybrid vehicles emit 30 to 80% more CO2 than manufacturers promise.
In response to this, Minister Barbara Pompili said that plug-in hybrids have a significant educational role to play in gradually getting drivers used to electric cars. However, the Ministry of Ecology still plans to abolish the ecological bonus for plug-in hybrids.
2022 ecological bonus: ecological bonus on used vehicles
The conditions and amount of the ecological bonus for second-hand vehicles have not changed. When you buy a second-hand electric vehicle, you can receive €1,000 in aid under certain conditions.
The used vehicle must meet the following conditions:
- be kept (whether purchased or leased) for at least 2 years;
- have been registered in France for at least two years on the date the vehicle is invoiced or the first lease payment is made;
- be registered in France in a definitive series ;
- have CO2 emissions of no more than 20 g/km (electric vehicles).

2022 ecological bonus: conversion premium maintained
The same applies to the conversion bonus. As with the ecological bonus, the conversion premium will continue until 1 July 2022.But what is the conversion premium?
This is income-based assistance for the purchase of a new vehicle, whether internal combustion, new or second-hand, electric or hybrid. or plug-in hybrid, whether new or used, whoseautonomy in electric mode is more than 50 km.
To be eligible for this aid, you need to put your old thermal vehicle scrappage scheme. You'll receive €3,000 towards the purchase of a new or used internal combustion vehicle, or €5,000 towards the purchase of a new or used electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle.
Note that the amount of the conversion premium may be less than the €5,000 initially planned. This amount may be reduced to €2,500 if your reference income was more than €13,489 in 2019.
To qualify for the conversion premium, the vehicle to be destroyed must meet the following conditions:
- The vehicle must be destroyed in an approved centre within 3 months before or 6 months after the purchase of the new vehicle.
- For a diesel car, the date of first registration must be before 2011 ;
- For a petrol car, the date of first registration must be before 2006 ;
- The owner must have owned the vehicle for at least one year;
- The vehicle must be registered in France
- The vehicle must not be pledged;
Note that from 1 July 2022, the bonus will only be available for the purchase of a vehicle emitting less than 127 g/km of CO2.

Putting it into practice
To give you a better idea of what these figures mean, we invite you to take a look at some real-life situations.
Putting the Tesla Model 3 to the test

If, for example, you want to buy a Tesla Model 3, worth €53,490, the ecological bonus will not be eligible according to the decree 2022-1761 this oneabolishes the ecological bonus for private cars with a purchase price of more than €47,000" .
However, if you decide to scrap your old diesel or petrol vehicle, you may be entitled to an additional €5,000. To find out whether you are eligible for the €5,000 conversion allowance, please refer to the conditions set out above.
Putting the Renault Zoe electric car through its paces

If you want to buy a Renault Zoe R110, worth €32,100, you'll be entitled to €5,000 in eco-bonus aid.
We know that for electric vehicles worth €47,000 or less, the bonus aid can be as much as €5,000. We also know that the ecological bonus must not represent more than 27 % of the total cost of the car. This is not the case here, as 27% of €32,100 = €8,667. This amount is higher than the €5,000 in eco-bonus aid.
For the moment, your Renault Zoe R110 is worth €23,433 after deduction of the environmental bonus. But there's more to come! If you decide to scrap your old diesel or petrol car, you may be entitled to a further €5,000. To find out whether you are eligible for the €5,000 conversion bonus, please refer to the conditions set out above.
So you end up with a cumulative eco-bonus of €11,000 or €8,500.
This means you can expect to pay between €21,100 and €24,100 for your Renault Zoe R110.
