The MG4 has won the coveted Affordable Electric Car of the Year award for 2023 thanks to its attractive pricing, driving dynamics, equipment levels and impressive powertrain. The key to the MG4's success is MG's new Modular Scalable Platform (MSP) architecture. Underscoring the MG4's status as a key player in MG's ongoing all-electric assault on the French market, the new platform will form the future of the next generation of MG electric vehicles.

The standard entry-level range starts from €28,990, more than €10,000 less than the Volkswagen ID.3 of similar size and engine. For this price, drivers will benefit from a 167 bhp, 51 kWh battery offering a range of 351 km (according to WLTP). As standard, they will also benefit from :

  • advanced driver assistance system,
  • automatic LED headlights and taillights,
  • rear parking sensors,
  • 17-inch alloy wheels,
  • adaptive cruise control,
  • automatic air conditioning,
  • the connectivity of MG's iSmart application.

Unsurprisingly, the Long Range version has the longest range at 452 km. This comes from the larger 64 kWh battery which also has a 135 kW charging capacity, meaning a charge time of 35 minutes to fill from 10 % to 80 % using a 150 kW rapid charger.

The brand's long-range models feature MG's grille shutter system, which regulates airflow according to vehicle requirements. MG claims that this improves efficiency aerodynamics up to 30 % and can extend the range of electric vehicles by up to 10 %. In terms of price, long-range models start from €34,450.

The 'Long Range' variant relies on innovation to increase range. Far from being a 'money pit', the MG4 is a wise choice for those wishing to go electric at a competitive price.

Ultimately, the MG4 could well prove to be an astute choice for many drivers wishing to make the move to electric power while keeping an eye on their budget. It will satisfy both drivers looking for an affordable electric car and those looking for a vehicle with impressive performance. Ready to take the plunge?
