Charging stations for businesses

Why install a recharging point on your premises?

If it is possible to recharge aelectric vehicleon a standard power socket, it takes a very long time (around forty hours to recharge a battery).Tesla Model 3) and can be dangerous because of the risk of overheating the plug and electrical cables. The practice is banned in Nordic countries because the risk of overheating is too high.

The charging stations for businesses can recharge up to 10 times faster than a standard socket outlet in complete safety.

Install acharging point on the company's premises to recharge its vehicles.electric fleetto support the company's employees in their efforts to switching to green mobility and offer its customers a recharging solution.

For establishments open to the public, such as shops, hotels and restaurants, installing recharging points is a way of attracting new customers and reducing energy consumption. build customer loyalty for electric cars.

What type of recharging point should be installed in a company?

The charging points on the market today all have a Type 2 socket for normal charging or a plug CCS for fast recharging, European standards for recharging electric vehicles. La charging stations you install will be compatible with all electric cars on the market. Note that some charging stations offer EF sockets as an option for other rechargeable vehicles such as hybrids, scooters and electric scooters.

A recharging point installed in a company is subject to intense use, so it is important to choose robust equipment from well-known brands.

For an office site, wall-mounted or free-standing bollards are recommended. Easy to install and taking up less space, they are very popular with businesses.

For a shopping centre or high-traffic site, It is advisable to install double wall-mounted or free-standing bollards. These chargepoints offer up to two charge points and additional features such as payment for the charging session by bank card.

How many charging points does a company need?

Before deciding how much power to allocate to the bollards, it's important to take a number of parameters into account.

The power accepted by the vehicle: the actual charging power also depends on the vehicle: electric vehicles have an on-board charger with a set maximum power. For example, aTesla Model 3can charge at a maximum power of 11 kW. If it is connected to a 22 kW charging point, it will only charge at 11 kW.

You will also need to take into account your customers' recharging habits.

Indeed, if thecharging pointis designed to charge fleet vehicles that are parked for short periods, a high charging power is preferable: we recommend a power of 22 kW in alternating current, which allows you to regain more than 100 km per hour of charging, or 50 kW in rapid charging in direct current, which allows you to regain 100 km in 20 minutes of charging.

In offices where vehicles are parked for several hours, 7.4 kW is more than enough power. It allows you to regain 30 to 40 km of driving distance.autonomy per hour of recharging.

The same applies to charging stations installed in hotels: a power of 7.4 kW is suitable.

For a restaurant, a higher power rating is useful for quickly recharging the vehicles of customers who are parked for less than two hours, particularly if the establishment is located close to a main road. A 22 kW charging point is a safe choice.

Charging stations are available in a range of power ratings:

Power ratingsType of rechargeRange regained/hour
3.7 kWAlternating current15 - 20 km
7.4 kWAlternating current30 - 40 km
11 kWAlternating current70 km
22 kWAlternating current100 - 120 km
50 kWDirect current300 km
100 kWDirect current600 km

If you want to install a DC (direct current) recharging point, which recharges in 30 minutes, it is important to take two things into account:

  • The cost of the equipment, which is 3 to 4 times higher than that of a kiosk in alternating current (AC) with a power of 22 kW
  • It's possible that your electricity subscription is insufficient, in which case you'll need to increase it if you can. Or you may have to ask Enedis to create an electricity delivery point.

How much does it cost to install a recharging point in a company?

The cost of installing a recharging infrastructure in-house depends on several factors:

  • number of terminals
  • charging power (7.4 kW, 11 kW, 22 kW)
  • distance between the terminal and the electricity meter
  • necessary roadworks, etc.

An estimated range of between €1,000 and €5,000 € is to be borne in mind for the installation of a charging point in a company.

Note that fast-charging stations, with a capacity of 50 kW or more, represent a higher investment.

How do you charge for the use of the charging point in your company?

Installing a charging point for electric vehicles represents an investment. However, while some sites offer recharging to users, it isincreasingly common to charge for recharging in order to obtain a return on investment and for the sake of fairness to employees who have not yet gone electric.

You can charge for recharging sessions on a fee-for-service basis, by the hour, or per kWh of electricity consumed. There are no set rules, so it's up to you to define what best suits the users of the recharging solution.

Time-based invoicing helps to limit the number of "buffer" vehicles that remain connected when they have finished refuelling. battery

kWh billing is recommended to avoid penalising users whose vehicles recharge more slowly.

To bill for recharging, you need to subscribe toa supervision system. It allows you to monitor the use of your terminals, control them remotely and manage billing.

This tool is highly recommended as it allows autonomous management of user invoicing. If the kiosk installation involves several sites, it is a good idea to be able to control it from the same tool.

PLEASE NOTE: FROM 1ᵉʳ JANUARY 2025, FREE CHARGING OF ELECTRIC VEHICLES AT WORK WILL NO LONGER BE AVAILABLE TO EMPLOYEES.

Billing typeFreePer kWhTime
More
  • Free and secure, operated by RFID badge
  • Fair billing for all drivers of electric cars and plug-in hybrids
  • Reduces the extra cost of electricity consumption
  • Limits buffer vehicles
  • Maximise return on investment (billing by the minute, 15 minutes, 30 minutes, one hour, etc.)
Minus
  • No incentive to leave the charging point once recharging is complete
  • No incentive to leave the charging point once recharging is complete
  • Less equitable because not all vehicles load at the same speed
Who is it for?
  • Ideal for company cars and company fleets where recharging is at the company's expense
  • Establishments open to the public (ERP) that make terminals available in return for payment
  • Maximises the number of users per charging point and optimises return on investment

Beev's advice :
There is no one type of billing that is better than another; it depends on the strategy and objective of each company. To determine which is best, you need to ask yourself why you want to install charging stations.

What support is there for installing a charging point in a company?

For the installation of company charging pointsyou can access the ADVENIR bonus.

From 1 January 2023, the Advenir premium no longer covers the installation costs for a charging point dedicated to electric vehicles of fleets and employees.

However, ADVENIR premiums for private car parks open to the public and for the intermediate target (hotels, restaurants and shops) are still available:

  • Private car park open to the public the amount of this premium is 30 % the cost of supplying and installing the charging points. Depending on the charging capacity chosen, the maximum amount of the premium per recharging point is set at between €1,000 and €2,700 excluding VAT.
  • Private car park open to the public - intermediate target (hotels, restaurants and shops) for a project limited to 5 charging points and a connection capacity less than 36 kVathe aid rate is 30 % with a 700 excluding VAT per recharging point. If there is the terminal supervision, An additional premium of €300 excl. making a total of 1,000 (excl. VAT) premiumper charging point.

To take advantage of the Advenir bonus, choose a certified installer to involve a IRVE qualified electrician (Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure) and to comply with specifications specific to each type of installation.

The administrative procedures involved in obtaining these grants are often complex and technical, so it's best to use a specialist installer who can take care of them for you. This guarantees that the grant will be paid out at the end of the project.

Good news: theADVENIR programmewhich was due to expire in 2022, has been extended until the end of 2025.

PLEASE NOTE: incentives for private car parks open to the public and for the intermediate target will end on 1 August 2023. Please contact us if you would like to apply before 1 August 2023.

Good to know since May 2022, ADVENIR and the employers' organisation Mobilianshave worked together to set up financial assistance specifically for automotive service professionals. Here are the amounts set by the programme :

  • For fleets and employees of automotive service professionals The ADVENIR programme provides for aid rate of 25 % and a maximum amount of €750 per recharging point,
  • For private car parks open to the public for car service professionals amounts are between 1,700 and €15,000 with a aid rate of 50 % (amounts vary according to the charging capacity). To find out more, read this article about Advenir and the changes planned for 2023.
