Unveiled to the general public at the Munich Motor Show, the first motoring event since the COVID 19 crisis, the new Renault Megane 100 % electric car, whose real name is the Megane E-tech electricis scheduled for the first quarter of 2022. One thing's for sure: it's a Megane in name only! In fact, this model has very little in common with its predecessors. According to the manufacturer, "We started from scratch to develop this electric Megane". The differences are so clear that we want to believe them.

The compact saloon stands out from the other models in the series in terms of its size. In fact, it is one of the few models in the series to lose volume rather than gain it.

It is 14 centimetres shorter than the current Megane and is the first model to bear the brand's new logo. Renault.

What does the new electric Megane look like?

Before getting to the heart of the matter, namely the vehicle's technical capabilities, let's talk about its style.

At the front, the LED headlights take on a dynamic shape. This gives the car a very modern look that is not to be underestimated. Renault has also incorporated a new light signature below the headlights, in the shape of a Z.

The car is 4.21 m long, 14 cm shorter than the current Megane. But despite this, it retains greater habitability thanks to a longer wheelbase than previous generations.
The new Renault Megane E-Tech The electric version is 1.5 metres high and has a 440-litre load volume in the boot.
It also has plenty of storage space, especially at the front, which is an advantage for electric cars with engines that take up less space.

Renault Although it's clear that it's a saloon, the electric Megane has a strong SUV look thanks to the bodywork protectors. These are positioned around the front and rear tyres, and on the door sills.

The new electric Megane from Renault also features retractable door handles, also known as flush handles, for enhanced aerodynamics thanks to reduced air resistance. This also makes for a smoother appearance. It's also possible to adjust the brightness inside and outside the vehicle to create the ambience you want. In terms of ergonomics and space, the Renault Megane E-tech has a completely flat floor. There is 209 mm of rear legroom and 33 litres of storage space.
The enlarged structure coupled with the new openR dashboard also frees up space.

In terms of modularity, the Electric Megane is equipped with an induction charger at the front, a USB-C socket at the rear, a central storage compartment and 33 litres of central and side storage space.

Technologies integrated into the new Renault Megane Electric

La Megane E-Tech has a raft of new technologies.Of particular note is Level 2 autonomous driving assistance, which will centre the vehicle on the road if necessary.

It has a 24-inch screen that can be connected to a smartphone without the need for a USB cable, so that the smartphone screen can be projected onto the vehicle's on-board display.

The interface is fairly simple to use: it works with Android automotive, an interface that works with Google.The screen is fairly fluid, a clear improvement on previous models.

Overall, Renault's new electric Mégane is a jewel of connectivity. It will be a pleasure to handle for all those who love new technologies.

Technical specifications of the Megane E-Tech

At last we can get to the heart of the matter, and see what's inside the new car. Electric Megane from Renault. Firstly, it has a 160 kWh motor, the equivalent of 218 bhp for a combustion engine.

Sa battery has a usable capacity of 60 kW, which means it can be used to power autonomy 500 km. It is also equipped with a fast-charging socket compatible with CCS combo 2.

In terms of fast charging, it is capable of delivering a charge power of up to 130 kW, enabling it to recharge up to 80% in just half an hour. As an option, however, it is also possible to recharge the Megane E-Tech to 22kW on alternating current, which means it can be recharged at home.

Renault's aim was to achieve very low fuel consumption by maximising aerodynamics with the flush-fitting door handles, but also with a roof that has a very sleek, low-slung design that maximises aerodynamics.

In other not-so-subtle news, the Megane E-Tech accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just over 7 seconds.

The price of the Renault Megane electric

Finally, of course, we have to mention the price Renault has set for its new toy.
Renault has not yet officially announced a fixed price.
But we can expect a price tag of around €30,000, or at least below the €35,000 of the Volkswagen 3DI, its main rival.

Overall, the Megane E-tech will be offered at a very competitive price for what it offers.
