What is the purpose of supervising a charging point?

Supervision borne recharge

At a time when the European Union is considering end of sales of internal combustion vehicles in 2035companies must also think about electrify their vehicle fleets. With an increase in registrations of +25 % of electric vehicles 100 % since January 2024, 129,525 charging points open to the public were registered at the end of April 2024, according to data from Avere-France.

These figures clearly show that the energy transition is progressing in France, and that's a good sign for the years to come.

By installing charging points in your car park, you have the opportunity to integrate a monitoring system. But what is this system, and what's the point of having it? We're going to answer these questions and provide you with the essential keys.

Discover our charging station supervision system

What does the law say?

According to the decree of 12 January 2021 (no. 2021-26)For example, a bollard installed in a car park open to the public must be equipped with supervision.

What's more, if you want to install charging points in your car park, you'll need the services of an IRVE (Recharging Infrastructure for Electric Vehicles) is necessary, not to say compulsory. Given that this type of installation is highly regulated, the approved IRVE installer will have undergone specific training and will check "that the electrical installation complies with current safety requirements".

For your own safety and that of your staff, employees and visitors, it will not be possible to install a recharging point yourself.

What is a supervision system? What is the purpose of supervision?

When you plan to install charging stationsIf you're looking for a way to monitor your terminals, find out how they're being used, or find out whether they're working properly, it's essential to think about it. None of this can be done through what is known as a supervision system.

Good to know: the supervision system is only accessible with connected terminalsThese are all connected to the internet with a stable connection for better use of the system and the terminals. We also have an article listing the the best bollards on the market, including those connectedif you're interested.

This system is a kiosk management tool that gives companies total control over their kiosks:

  • real-time monitoring of terminal consumption
  • plan the periods of use of the bollards, to open the bollard only during your opening hours for example.

What data does the monitoring software collect?

As we mentioned earlier, the bollard monitoring software will give you all the information and data about the use of your bollards. But what data does the system collect and how is it managed? This is a question you may be asking yourself, and one that your customers or employees may wonder about when they use your kiosks.

With the supervision system, you will have access to a range of data, such as :

  • location: your terminals can be easily located
  • the energy delivered by the charging points during recharging
  • the power delivered
  • date and time of start and end of use
  • an overview of how often your terminals are used
  • track transactions
  • terminal access management

Apart from the information explained above, no other data about the user's electric vehicle is collected by the monitoring system.

How does the supervision system work?

The supervision system is a useful tool for terminal owners, but how does it work?

An electronic box connected to the Internet links the charging points together. From there, information about the chargepoints is collected and stored in the cloud, and the owner of the chargepoints, or a third-party operator, can access this information on a dedicated monitoring platform.

Once the monitoring platform has retrieved the necessary data, it must be sent to Advenir, once the beneficiary has made use of this subsidy.

Among other things, this data collection will make it possible to measure the impact of the charging points on the electricity network and assess the energy efficiency of electric vehicle charging.

Would you like to install a recharging point?

Why should you have monitoring software for your bollards?

The needs of charging point owners vary from one company to another. That's why it's important for every owner to be able to install charging stations that meet their company's needs and objectives.

So having connected charging points gives you both economic and practical advantages.

Supervision software for charging stations: practical benefits

You've probably noticed that new technologies have made their way into electric cars and charging points.

With an internet connection, it will be much easier for you to control the terminals, and even more remotely. So you can :

  • control your terminals from anywhere, as long as you have a stable internet connection.
  • remotely control the start and end of recharging (from a computer or smartphone)
  • automate invoicing
  • track transactions
  • Alert a fault in one or more bollards: if a bollard malfunctions, the operator will be notified and will be able to intervene quickly with the necessary tools.
  • availability of charging points: find out whether they are free or not; find out whether charging is in progress or at the end of its useful life.

Using a supervision system also saves time for the bollard owner. With a large number of bollards in a car park, it will be much easier to check the status of each bollard on a single platform.

Supervision system for bollards: the economic benefits

Did you know that the supervision system also gives you economic advantages? Installing bollard monitoring software gives you a number of economic advantages, including :

  • set your own rates for charging sessions and automate invoicing
  • charge your users and earn money in the process

How do I request the supervision system for my terminals?

  • You will then be contacted to arrange a date for the IRVE-approved installer to come and install your charging point(s). As for the choice of installer, don't worry. Beev will choose it for you.

A reminder according to decree of 12 January 2017 (no. 2017-26)installation must be carried out by a technician who has had training in the field. IRVE qualification (Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure), issued by approved bodies, including Qualifelec or AFNOR.

These are time-consuming steps, but don't worry, our Beev team will make it easy for you, because we'll take care of everything. Don't hesitate to contact us if you'd like to get started on your installation project.

Supervision only comes into play once the charging point(s) have been installed.

After that, call your Beev expert to tell him about your project and your needs. From there, an on-site visit could be made to estimate your project if necessary. Then comes the software installation. You can also take advantage of technical assistance to configure your supervision software for your charging stations.

In addition to this system, we recommend that you take out a maintenance contract, so that you can benefit fully from your charging infrastructure over the long term.

In conclusion
