What are the different types of charging station?

There are different types of recharging station offering different power ratings. If you want to recharge your electric car faster than a conventional socket, you can buy a Legrand Green'Up.

This equipment resembles a conventional outdoor socket, but boasts 3.2 kW of power, giving you a range of around 200 km.range overnight.

For even faster recharging, the SB CooperWallbox is for you.

Operating in mode 3, this charging station delivers 3 possible available:

  • 7.4 kW,
  • 11 kW,
  • 22 kW

This type of charging is used with a Type 2 AC plug.

However, before making a purchase, you need to identify two essential parameters:

  • What type of recharge do I want? Non-connected, connected, slow or fast?
  • What is the power rating and type of electrical installation you have at home? Because to obtain a power output of 7 to 11 kW with a bollard, your electrical installation needs to be correctly sized.

Why install a charging station?

The wall-mounted terminal remains the recommended solution for recharging your electric car. It can be installed in a private garage.

Let's take a look at the advantages, government subsidies and disadvantages of a charging station:

Benefits

  • Safety : Compared with a simple household socket, a charging station provides additional safety thanks to built-in protection devices.
  • Recharging : Recharging is the second advantage of the charging station. It enables you to recharge an electric car more quickly than a conventional or reinforced socket.
  • Recognition: some manufacturers, such as Renault or BMW impose charging on a Wallbox-type charging device, simply by not providing a cable for charging on a traditional socket.
  • Variety of choice: There are numerous Wallbox models, with more or less similar functions and performance, such as the EVlink Wallbox or the Witty from Hager.
  • Valorization : installation of a charging station increases the value of a home, and therefore its price. What's more, if a house already has an outlet, this is a plus for future resale of the property.

State aid

  • State aid : The French government offers a number of incentives to reduce the cost of installing a wallbox. It takes the form of a 30% tax credit.
  • Any owner : of a principal residence who acquires a recharging solution can benefit from the energy transition tax credit of a lump sum of 500 euros.
  • Multi-family buildings : are eligible for the 50% assistance available under the ADVENIRprogram, for the supply and fitting of a recharging point for individual or collective use.

Changes in eligibility conditions for individual charging points in apartment buildings :

As of August 1, 2022, the conditions of eligibility for individual charging points in apartment buildings change.

From now on, only single-phase T2S charging points are eligible for the ADVENIR program.

A quick reminder: the rate and amount of aid for this target remains unchanged. It is still equal to 50%, with a maximum amount of €960 (excl. VAT) per recharging point.

  • Paris City Hall : assistance of 50% of the cost of the work (€500 per charging point, 4 charging points maximum), i.e. a maximum of €2,000 for building owners or social landlords wishing to install charging stations for residents or visitors.
  • Normandy : it's possible to reduce the cost of installing charging stations if you buy an electric vehicle. The amount of assistance is 30% of the amount excluding tax, up to a limit of €15,000 per request, coupled with the purchase of an electric vehicle.

Inconvenient

  • Initial investment: a terminal pays for itself in less than 5 years, making it a lasting investment that can even enhance the value of your parking space.
  • Offer: the sheernumber of offers can make it hard to find your way around.

How to choose the right recharging point installer?

You've taken the plunge! You've bought your electric car and the next step on the horizon is the installation of your charging station. To make sure you're dealing with the right company for the purchase and installation of your charging station. Here are a few essential points to make sure you're making the right choice:

  • A team of certified professionals : not just anyone can install bollards! The company you choose must work with a team of certified professionals (IRVE certification) to ensure proper installation and avoid problems.
  • A team that respects installation laws : Just like a water heater or heating system, installing a charging station is subject to exacting standards that must be respected. If you don't, not only will the warranty on the device be void in the event of a problem, but you'll probably also have problems with your charging station.
  • A company that respects you and answers your questions: When you make a purchase like this, it's normal to have questions. A legitimate company will not only have plenty of information available on its website, but will know how to answer the ones you ask. If a company dodges questions and answers only that they know what they're doing... run, they're probably not certified to do the job.
  • Be transparent: Somewhat related to the previous point, you'll know you're dealing with a good company if it's transparent. In other words, they explain the process from A to Z, from quotation to installation to after-sales service. The company will provide you with full details of your purchase and its warranty, and will be on hand in the event of any post-installation problems.
