To speed up the transition to electric mobility and improve air quality, the government is encouraging companies to electrify their fleets. To this end, the Mobility Orientation Law (LOM) of December 24, 2019, which was implemented on March 11, 2021.
This law encourages companies with more than 100 vehicles and 50 employees to upgrade their fleets with electric vehicles and install charging stations every 3 years, over four deadlines:
- From January 1, 2022: 10% of parking space
- From January 1, 2024: 20% of parking space
- From January 1, 2027: 40% of the parking area
- From January 1, 2030: 70% of the parking lot
The LOM law introduced other measures, including :
Crit'Air stickers in major cities.
Access for vehicles with a Crit'Air sticker 1 to 3 in ZFEs (Low Emission Zones).
A ban on diesel vehicles in France by 2030.
Faced with this law, these electric vehicles need to be equipped with charging stations. Buying charging stations directly is not the only solution. You can also lease electric charging stations: either through a LOA (Lease with Purchase Option) or a LLD (Long-Term Lease).
Regardless of the type of rental, renting charging stations offers a number of advantages:

What's more, if your aim is not to use up your cash flow, you can count the rent as an expense on your balance sheet. When you calculate your gross profit, the moment you increase your expenses, your net profit before tax decreases.
In the end, you'll pay less tax. This reduction also reduces your company's debt capacity. In other words, you'll have much more freedom in your accounting, for example, to apply for loans.
In the first case, the LOA is a leasing arrangement, enabling you to rent a charging station for 36 or 48 months. During this period, you benefit from the asset. In return, monthly payments are made to the lessor of the charging station. If you choose this type of lease, services such as maintenance and insurance are included in the contract.
When the contract comes to an end, you can purchase the charging station outright and become its owner. In this case, the residual value will be determined. This residual value corresponds to the value of the charging station, as estimated by the lessor, at the end of the contract. As the charging point has been leased and used over a long period, the buy-back value will be a symbolic €1.
If you opt for long-term leasing, you'll also pay fixed monthly installments, with maintenance and insurance included in the rental price.
What's more, as your business is likely to evolve over time, with a leasing contract you'll be able to change charging stations to take advantage of new technologies.
When you apply for a lease with Beev, our advisors give you the option of increasing the initial deposit.

0% straight-line rent: if you choose this method of financing, a fixed price will be payable each month according to the amount of the project.
Rent plus 25%
Rent plus 35%
If you choose this method of financing, you will have to make an initial deposit in the first month of rental. This will be higher than in subsequent months. This will enable you to reimburse the costs of setting up the contract. So the higher the first month's rent, the lower the rent you'll have to pay in subsequent months.

No, it will not be possible to terminate your contract. Leasing a charging station is a binding contract, and the end date is non-negotiable. If you wish to terminate the lease, you should be aware that you will be subject to penalties.
If you want to buy a charging station, that's capital expenditure. The purchase of an asset is part of CAPEX (Capital Expenditures). These expenses are monitored in terms of Return on Investment (ROI). To give an example, if you have purchased electric vehicles to electrify your fleet, this investment is part of CAPEX. For this type of expenditure, it is advisable to anticipate how you will use your CAPEX, so as to have an overall view of your profitability.
If your objective is to grow your company over the long term, the purchase of charging stations may be of interest to you.
For the rental of charging stations, this type of financing is completely different. In this case, we call itOPEX (Operational Expenditures). This covers all your company's day-to-day expenses, such as real estate, human resources and energy.
Leasing can be an interesting option if you want to focus on operating expenses and optimize your working capital requirements. Even if you don't own the terminal at the outset, the cost of the project will be much lower.
In this way, leasing a charging station is a more flexible means of financing, with lower working capital requirements. With this form of leasing, all you have to do is take out a leasing contract for a charging station, for a limited period.
The choice between these two options therefore depends on the context, the health of your company and your objectives.
