All you need to know about the Mini brand

Mini logo

The Mini was created in 1959 during the fuel shortage in Britain due to the Suez crisis in 1959. This meant that petrol was once again rationed in the UK, large cars became more expensive and imported cars were not very common. To save Britain from this crisis, Leonard Lord, head of the British Motor Company (BMC), decided to create a small, economical city car called the Mini. Over the life of the Mini, a total of 5,387,862 cars were produced and almost 1.6 million were sold in Britain. Not only that, but the Mini has retained many glorious victories in the world of motorsport. In 2000, Mini became part of the German BMW Group, along with Rolls-Royce. Under the new management, the brand first marketed the original Mini for a few years, before launching the second generation in 2001 when BMW chose to capitalize the brand name, MINI, to differentiate the brand from the model. The manufacturer then extended its range, retaining the characteristic lines of the original Mini with the Countryman, Clubman and Paceman. In July 2019, Mini introduces an electrified version of its city car, the Cooper SE, based on the BMW I3 powertrain. It features a 184 hp engine combined with a 36.2 kWh battery.
