In 2017, Grenoble-Alpes Métropole wishes to encourage the use of low-emission vehicles in order to reduce pollution and improve air quality. A prefiguration ZFE was set up on January 1, 2017 for goods vehicles. Grenoble has become a low-emission zone (ZFE) as the scheme has been extended to the vehicle fleet. Grenoble-Alpes Métropole's goal is to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions by 75% by 2026 compared with 2017. Like all major French cities, Grenoble is keen to develop the use of electric cars. The city of Grenoble is committed to promoting low-pollution urban mobility, and intends to ban diesel vehicles by 2025 and in the longer term for petrol vehicles.. By 2025, only post-2011 petrol vehicles will be allowed on the road. Electric cars, which emit no CO2 or noise pollution, are often favored by cities.
Since February 2020, the Grenoble-Alpes Métropole EPZ has been extended to 27 communes: Bresson, Champagnier, Champ-sur-Drac, Claix, Corenc, Échirolles, Eybens, Fontaine, Gières, Grenoble, Jarrie, La Tronche, Meylan, Montchaboud, Noyarey, Poisat, Pont-de-Claix, Quaix-en-Chartreuse, Saint-Égrève, Saint-Martin-d'Hères and Domaine Universitaire, Saint-Martin-le-Vinoux, Sassenage, Seyssinet-Pariset, Seyssins, Varces, Venon, Veurey-Voroise.

Back in February 2020, when retrofitting was not yet legal in France, the Grenoble metropolis was the first local authority to offer financial support for this operation.

The ecological bonus is changing! With changes scheduled for January 1, 2023, the ecological bonus will drop from €6,000 to €5,000. This bonus is deducted directly from the price of the vehicle by the leasing company or dealer.
You can also benefit from the "prime à la conversion" (conversion bonus) of up to €5,000, depending on your household income. The conversion bonus is government assistance for all French people to buy a new, less-polluting diesel, petrol, electric or rechargeable hybrid vehicle, whether used or new.
The government is stepping up its support for electric cars. That's right, a ZFE is granted to residents and workers in low-emission zones. If you live or work in the ZFE in Grenoble, you can receive a bonus of up to €2,000. What's more, the ZFE bonus can be combined with other subsidies such as the ecological bonus and the conversion premium.
