Electric cars in Montpellier

The city of Montpellier is currently developing a plan to accelerate the metropolis' ecological transition and promote the use of electric cars among local residents. Since electric cars produce no CO2 emissions or noise pollution, more and more cities are promoting their use through a range of action plans designed to democratize their use.

Montpellier town council has set up a ZFE-m (Zone à faibles émissions mobilité - low-emission mobility zone) to restrict the circulation of polluting vehicles and encourage the use of different means of clean mobility within the metropolis.

Currently, Montpellier town council is looking to introduce the ZFE-m to the city's 814,049 inhabitants within the city's pedestrian zone. Montpellier City Council is also considering a second option. The creation of a ZFE-m in an extended perimeter from the suburbs to the freeway is possible, with access restrictions depending on your vehicle's Crit'Air level.
