Apple Maps now shows charging stations

APPLE MAPS CHARGING STATIONS

At its WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference), Apple announced that its Maps application would be receiving a raft of updates. One of these is of particular interest to electric car owners, who are always concerned about their batterylife.

Indeed, right at the opening of its conference, held exclusively online this year, for reasons known to all(Covid-19). Apple announced that Maps would inherit a feature called "EV routing".

This feature will be available in the latest version of iOS 14 and will aim to eliminate the range anxiety and fear of running out of power that electric car owners may have, by showing charging stations compatible with the user's electric vehicle.

Applications such as ChargeMap, Kiwhi and many more

other applications offer a list of available recharging points in France and elsewhere in the world. Automakers are also getting involved, as with Tesla have a feature that guides the driver to the nearest Supercharger station.

Today, there is an ever-increasing number of charging stations, with almost of 30,000 charging points distributed across some 7,000 charging stations in France by 2020. But we're not stopping there, as the French Energy Transition Act calls for no less than 7 million electric charging stations installed by 2030.

In addition, Emmanuel Macron has presented a recovery plan for the automotive sector, hit hard by the Covid-19 health crisis. A national deployment plan for recharging stations, with the aim of having of 100,000 charging stations installed throughout throughout France. They will be located in towns and cities, in condominiums, on major roads and, of course, on freeways.

These 100,000 charging stations will be ready to welcome users by the end of 2021 in one of Europe's most ambitious plans for clean vehicles.

Apple goes EV routing

Like Google MapsApple Maps will display the location of electric vehicle charging stations. Users will register their vehicle in the application to receive notifications only of charging stations compatible with their model.

The application will monitor the battery 's charge level and calculate the number of recharging breaks required on the route. The iOS 14 version of Maps will also make it possible to avoid heavily congested areas.

The Apple brand has worked with major automakers such as BMW and Ford. The new version of Maps will make it possible to find kiosks compatible with these brands' vehicles from the outset, and Apple promises to add other manufacturers to its program in the future.

Apple hasn't said exactly when it will roll out iOS 14, and with it these new Maps features, but users will be enjoying them this autumn.

Find charging stations easily

In addition to the vehicle model and the type of charging system used, the software will also take other factors into account to suggest one charging point over another.

Depending on the weather and even altitude (cold can affect a vehicle's vehicleautonomy ), Maps will choose to give priority to terminals that are closer or further away.

As many cities around the world have zones restricted to certain categories of vehicle, the software will also take these into account and, if necessary, suggest alternative routes. Of course, the software will also allow you to find the nearest kiosk, without necessarily calculating the route to get there.

And there will be no jealousy! For cyclists, Maps will also feature a dedicated mode for finding bike paths.
