What are the best charging solutions for professionals?

Whether you're recharging at home or at work, it's vital to be well-informed before buying a particular recharging solution. Here is a non-exhaustive list of the most suitable charging stations for professionals.

Wallbox Copper SB

The Copper SB charging station from Wallbox is a high-performance, versatile solution for all electric vehicles. Renowned for their excellence in over 80 countries, electric charging stations from Wallbox have established themselves as the industry benchmark.

Its power range from 7.4 kW to 22 kW, providing a charge up to 8 times faster than a standard household socket, and its type 2 connector guarantee universal compatibility. What's more, it can be connected in either single- or three-phase, meaning it can be adapted to existing electrical installations without the need for major modifications. As a result, it is suitable for every need, for both private and professional users, and can be installed both indoors and outdoors.

This charging solution also features an integrated safety system that protects against overheating, short-circuits and insulation faults.

But that's not all: the Copper SB's Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connectivity enables remote management and monitoring of energy consumption via a dedicated mobile app.

However, installation requires the intervention of an IRVE professional to guarantee optimal operation.

Circontrol eNext S

Unlike Wallbox, the market leader, Circontrol has not sought to design electric charging stations with revolutionary technologies.

Instead, the brand has prioritized the robustness and long-term performance of its charging stations, with the majority of models retaining the essential functionality of an electric charging station.

The Circontrol eNext S charging station, with a maximum output of 7.4 kW, is ideally suited to office sites where users can take advantage of downtime to recharge their batteries. Thanks to its Bluetooth connectivity, the device can be configured remotely. Companies can choose between indoor and outdoor installation, as the device is both waterproof and shockproof.

Legrand Green'up

Legrand Green'up

Legrand's Green'Up reinforced socket, featuring an exclusive patent, offers electric vehicles and rechargeable hybrids safe, fast recharging. Thanks to its patented system, the plug reduces recharging time by up to two times compared with a conventional electrical socket. The plug combines safety, simplicity and speed, guaranteeing efficient, reliable recharging for compatible electric vehicles.

What's more, it doesn't require IRVE authorization for installation, as this reinforced socket delivers a maximum power of 3.7 kWh. This makes it ideal for professionals who don't require fast charging for their vehicles, such as those in offices.

EVBox Elvi

EVBox, a major player in the charging station industry, offers the Elvi charging station, a discreet charging solution providing 3 types of charging: 7.4 kW, 11 kW and 22 kW.

The EVBox Elvi is specially designed for wall-mounted or free-standing charging in private homes or company parking lots. In fact, thanks to the different charging powers offered by this charging solution, the EVBox Elvi can meet every type of need. For example, if you need a fast charge for recurring business trips, you can opt for the 22 kW.

This device typically recovers up to 120 km ofautonomy on a one-hour charge, making it ideal for professional environments. Its RFID-protected access and included management software enable users to monitor, control and track energy consumption via Wi-Fi.

Why should companies deploy their electric fleets?

Installing charging stations for electric vehicles is beneficial for both companies and their employees.

Fleets of vehicles are essential for many companies in different fields, such as courier services, technical assistance and goods delivery. Charging these electric vehicles needs to be efficient and straightforward, so that the various users can complete their journeys smoothly and cost-effectively.

What's more, by installing charging stations, companies encourage their employees to opt for electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles, thus contributing to more sustainable and ecological mobility. Installing recharging solutions at the workplace or at employees' homes gives them greater convenience, enabling them to recharge their vehicles during working hours and avoiding the inconvenience of searching for public charging stations.

In addition, the installation of charging stations will enable companies to enhance their image and demonstrate their commitment to the ecological transition and the well-being of their employees, thereby strengthening their corporate social responsibility (CSR).

It's important to emphasize that buying an electric car saves you money compared with a combustion-powered car. Recharging an electric vehicle costs considerably less (from around €2/100 km) than filling up with fuel (from around €7/100 km). What's more, maintenance costs are also lower. On average, an electric car costs €800/year to maintain, compared with €1,000/year for a combustion-powered vehicle

The benefits of deploying an environmentally-friendly vehicle fleet

In short, here are all the notable benefits you need to deploy your electric fleet in business:

  • Meeting growing needs

To develop charging points and easily upgrade charging solutions if there is more than one vehicle in the future.

  • A cost-effective solution

Improve profitability with multiple recharging, minimizing initial investment and maintenance costs when several electric vehicles need to be recharged.

  • Dynamic load management

Avoid power outages caused by overloading or the need to increase subscribed power. The energy allocated to vehicle charging will be dynamically adjusted according to the consumption of the rest of the installations.

  • Cloud-based monitoring

Monitor your chargers and their performance. You'll have control over the different profiles that use them (employees, visitors, company fleet...) and their consumption in case you want to bill them in the future.

  • Efficient parking

Enhance the experience of your employees and visitors by offering advice and directions to parking spaces reserved for electric vehicles in your company parking lot.

What does the LOM law say?

The report on the 2019 LOM law (Loi d'orientation des mobilités) starts with an observation: the government has indicated that we are dealing with a transport policy that is no longer in harmony with global measures and challenges, and no longer corresponds to the needs and expectations of citizens. As a result, there are two issues to resolve:

  • the lack of public transport in many areas, which leads to individual car use
  • environmental and climate emergencies (pollution caused by transport) are among the problems to be resolved.

In other words, the LOM law has radically transformed mobility policy, with the aim of making everyday transport easier, cheaper and cleaner. That said, companies are obliged to install recharging solutions for their employees.

Companies covered by this law are those with over 50 employees and a fleet of over 100 vehicles (total weight under 3.5 tonnes).

Article A26 of the LOM provides for the acquisition of low-emission vehicles (greenhouse gas emissions of less than 60 g/km):

  • 20% of this renewal from January 1ᵉʳ 2024 onwards
  • 35% of this renewal as of January 1ᵉʳ, 2027
  • 50% of this renewal from January 1ᵉʳ, 2030

In addition to this renewal of the electric fleet industrial and commercial buildings built after January 1ᵉʳ, 2017 and equipped with an enclosed and covered parking area reserved for employees must obligatorily pre-equip (sheaths, cable trays or conduits from the general low-voltage electrical panel), or install pre-wiringto accommodate one or more charging stations.

Companies whose buildings were constructed before 2012 and which have more than 20 parking spaces reserved for their employees must also pre-equip their parking spaces to accommodate charging stations.

For parking lots with fewer than 40 spaces, the company must pre-equip at least 10% of parking spaces. For larger parking lots, this figure rises to 20%. In short, the proportion of parking spaces to be pre-equipped varies between 5% and 10%, depending on the area in which the company is located.

What size of recharging point should be installed on your premises?

When choosing the right recharging solution for your fleet of company vehicles, you need to consider the power required to meet your needs. For this reason, it's important to determine the most suitable configuration in advance, which may also include a combination of different power levels for electric charging stations.

For example, for vehicles making rounds and needing to be recharged several times in the company parking lot, fast charging stations (22 kW or more) are the preferred choice.

However, for vehicles parked overnight on site or at employees' homes, standard charging stations (7.4 kW or less) may be sufficient.

For more information, we invite you to read our article on the installation of charging stations in companies.

How many spaces does the company need for employee electric vehicles?

In addition to renewing their electric fleets, the French law on mobility (Loi d'orientation des mobilités - LOM) also requires industrial or tertiary buildings built after January 1ᵉʳ, 2017 and equipped with an enclosed and covered parking area reserved for employees must obligatorily pre-equip (sheaths, cable trays or conduits from the general low-voltage electrical panel), or install pre-wiringto accommodate one or more charging stations.

Companies whose buildings were constructed before 2012 and which have an employee parking lot with more than 20 spaces must also pre-equip their parking spaces to accommodate charging stations. For parking lots with fewer than 40 spaces, the company must pre-equip at least 10% of parking spaces. For larger parking lots, this proportion rises to 20%.

All in all, the proportion of parking spaces to be pre-equipped varies between 5% and 10%, depending on the area in which the company is located.
